A day after the state cabinet withdrew the controversial Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026 that would have allowed the government to use up to five per cent of public parks for infrastructure and utility projects, the chief minister said the administration will explore alternative routes to implement the proposed 16.5 km tunnel road from Hebbal to Silk Board. He hinted that the idea of using a portion of Lalbagh would be dropped and that technical and environmental options will be examined before any decision. The cabinet withdrawal was described as aimed at wider legislative discussion.

He rejected suggestions that the cabinet action amounted to a U-turn and said the decision reflected respect for public sentiment rather than any loss of resolve. He explained that the bill was withdrawn to allow for detailed discussion in the legislature and that withdrawal did not signal a retreat from infrastructure goals. The chief minister emphasised that if there was opposition to a measure, it was appropriate for the government to step back and consult further.

He criticised the opposition for consistently opposing major infrastructure projects in Bengaluru and challenged critics to identify a significant project initiated under their tenure. He reiterated the administration's view that the city requires tunnel roads and double-decker corridors as part of a broader strategy to tackle persistent traffic congestion. Technical feasibility studies and route assessments will be prioritised alongside consultations with urban planners and environmental authorities.

He said preparations are under way to give the Mysuru Dasara celebrations a new look, with discussions held with the Indian Air Force and the defence ministry about including an Air Force contingent. He added that cultural performances representing different parts of south India and North Karnataka, including Bidar and Kalaburagi, will be showcased. Officials will coordinate logistics and ceremonial arrangements ahead of the festival.
