Traffic on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway was halted after shooting stones triggered a landslide near Mehla village in Bilaspur district, blocking the carriageway and disrupting movement of all types of vehicles. The Bilaspur police suspended movement of vehicles beyond Mandi Bharari Chowk as a precaution and emergency crews were reported at the scene assessing the damage. No loss of life was reported and motorists on the affected stretch were advised to remain calm.

Vehicles travelling to Chandigarh from Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi and Kullu were diverted to Nauni Chowk via the Mandi Bharari Bridge and instructed to use National Highway 205 to Swarghat before proceeding towards Kiratpur. Traffic moving from Chandigarh to Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi, Kullu and Manali was rerouted from Swarghat to Nauni Chowk to access the four-lane highway. Authorities said the diversions were implemented to ensure public safety and to maintain traffic flow while clearance work continued.

The Superintendent of Police in Bilaspur, Abhishek Dhiman, appealed to the public to travel only via the prescribed alternative routes and to cooperate with traffic police for smooth management of movement. Motorists stranded on the highway were urged to remain patient and to follow directions of the local administration and police personnel deployed at the site. Tourists and residents were cautioned against unnecessary travel on the Kiratpur-Manali National Highway during the ongoing spell of heavy rainfall.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 118 roads continue to remain blocked across the hill state owing to damage caused by torrential rain, with 44 roads in Mandi, 39 in Kullu, 13 in Shimla, seven in Chamba, six in Sirmaur, five in Kangra, three in Una and one in Solan. Heavy rain is likely to continue across Himachal Pradesh until 15 August, with orange alerts in place for Kangra and Sirmaur and yellow alerts for Solan, Mandi and Bilaspur, where heavy rain is expected at isolated places. Light to moderate rain is expected in other parts of the state.
