The holy city of Kurukshetra will soon get a Ring Road facility, with the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) nearing completion. The move comes as the city witnesses a rising number of pilgrims and tourists. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned Rs 2.5 billion for the city’s development, aimed at enhancing its global identity.

This was announced by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during a press conference at Haryana Niwas, ahead of the upcoming International Gita Mahotsav. The Chief Minister recalled that during a 2014 public rally in Kurukshetra, PM Modi had envisioned the city—birthplace of the Bhagavad Gita—as a globally recognised pilgrimage destination.

Acting on this vision, the state government has implemented several initiatives to boost the city’s international prominence. The Gita Jayanti Mahotsav has now achieved worldwide recognition, attracting devotees and tourists from across India and abroad.

The Chief Minister said the city is being developed in a grand and attractive manner, highlighting the Anubhav Kendra at Jyotisar, based on the Mahabharata era, which is nearing completion. PM Modi will visit Kurukshetra on 25 November to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and participate in the International Gita Mahotsav.

This year, the Ministry of External Affairs is playing a special role in organising the Mahotsav, with invitations sent to 24 countries through diplomatic channels.

Speaking on the Krishna Circuit project launched by the Government of India to promote tourism, Saini said Kurukshetra is emerging as a global spiritual and cultural hub. Under this initiative, plans are also underway for the restoration of Pinjore Gardens and beautification of Tikkar Tal.

The Chief Minister added that the city is being designed on a Mahabharata theme, with major intersections named after characters from the epic and murals depicting its stories adorning the cityscape, offering visitors an immersive cultural experience.
