Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced that it successfully secured a substantial project for the construction of a bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River in Assam. According to L&T's classification, projects valued between Rs 25-50 billion are considered large orders.

In a filing to BSE, the company stated, "The transportation infrastructure business of L&T Construction has been awarded a project contract to build the Palashbari to Sualkuchi cable-stayed bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Assam." The Public Works Roads Department (PwRD) of Assam is responsible for granting the project, and the 12.21 km bridge will provide a direct link between Palashbari and Sualkuchi towns.

Sualkuchi, renowned as one of the world's largest weaving centers, produces traditional Assamese garments using indigenous materials like Muga, the golden silk, exclusive to the region. Additionally, the bridge will establish a direct connection to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU), Assam.

The project is slated for completion within a four-year timeframe.
