Madurai-Sivaganga Road Expansion Faces Delays
The project covers a 2-km stretch from Anna Bus Stand to Aavin Junction, including key junctions like Collector's Office and Melamadai. The road will be widened from 7-11 meters to a standard 19 meters, incorporating a center median and stormwater drains to improve traffic flow in this busy corridor.
The project requires around 3,941 square meters of private land, and a consultation meeting with landowners will be held next month to address concerns. Officials expect land acquisition and widening work to be completed within three months, after which construction will commence, easing traffic congestion for commuters.
The broader project also includes the construction of a 1.1 km four-lane grade separator with service roads, enhancing connectivity for key locations in Madurai, such as the Govt Rajaji Hospital, Tamukkam Grounds, and Gandhi Museum.
