Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remotely inaugurated a flyover connecting New Town to Sector V from Nabanna, marking an important transportation milestone. The flyover spans across the Kestopur canal, linking Balaka Abasan in New Town's Action Area I to the Sector V Ring Road near Godrej Waterside, adjacent to the Panache housing complex.

Stretching 650 m in length, this flyover plays a vital role in providing an alternative route from Salt Lake and Sector V to New Town, significantly reducing travel time for commuters coming from EM Bypass and heading towards the township. Each day, a multitude of vehicles carrying people to their workplaces and back traverse New Town, creating congestion along the 10.5-kilometer Major Arterial Road (MAR), which currently serves as the primary connection between New Town, Salt Lake, and the airport.

During rush hour, it can take anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour to cover the approximately 10-kilometer distance from the Chingrighata intersection on the Bypass to the Unitech crossing via the Major Arterial Road. However, during non-peak hours, the journey typically takes around 30 minutes. The opening of the flyover is expected to alleviate the traffic burden on MAR once light vehicles are permitted to use it. Motorists can now take advantage of the flyover, driving directly to the Sector V Ring Road and proceeding towards the Bypass while keeping Nicco Park on their left.

The construction of this four-lane flyover took three years to complete. Additionally, it features energy-efficient LED street lighting systems, with plans to power them using solar energy in the near future, as confirmed by an official from Hidco, the organisation responsible for building the flyover.

Real estate developers operating in the New Town-Sector V area express their satisfaction with this new development. Nakul Himatsingka from Ideal Group states, "I am delighted that the flyover has been opened to the public. Modern urban residents prioritise specific conveniences to enhance their personal and professional lives, with infrastructure and ease of communication being their key concerns. For residents in the area, this new flyover will greatly facilitate accessibility to New Town and beyond."
