The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has earmarked an approximate sum of Rs 60 billion for the construction of the strategic Frontier Highway in Arunachal Pradesh, dividing the project into 11 packages. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing connectivity in border regions. The Frontier Highway, also known as NH-913, is slated to run parallel to the India-Tibet-China-Myanmar border and will be implemented in stages.

This extensive road project, spanning 1748 km as a two-lane highway, will be a collaborative effort involving three government agencies: the State Public Works Department (PWD), the Border Road Organisation (BRO), and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). The highway will be situated approximately 20 km from the international border at various points, with the commencement expected in April 2024.

On February 11, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the sanction of an estimated Rs 20.98 billion for the construction of Package 2 and 3 (Bomdila-Nafra-Lada section), covering a distance of around 78.3 km. Additionally, he disclosed an estimated sanction of Rs 2.79 billion for Package 7, encompassing the 15.4 km-long Lada-Sarli Section. Both these sections will be executed using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.

Earlier, on February 06, the ministry had allocated an estimated Rs 38.90 billion for the Lada-Sarli section, Sarli-Huri section, and Kharsang-Miao-Vijaynagar-Gandhigram section, collectively spanning 202.14 km.

The Frontier Highway (NH-913) is envisioned to address migration challenges and promote reverse migration to the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. Furthermore, it will establish connections across vital river basins and support the development of numerous hydropower projects in the state, as highlighted by the Road Transport and Highways Minister.
