The Madhya Pradesh government has approved the Mukhyamantri Majra-Tola Sadak Yojana, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing road connectivity for tribal communities in remote rural areas. The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has allocated Rs 2.6 trillion (Rs 2,600 billion) for the project’s implementation.

The scheme targets the construction of 30,900 km of rural roads across two phases: the first phase will run from 2025–26 to 2029–30, followed by a second phase from 2030–31 to 2034–35. It aims to connect 20,600 habitations, specifically Majra-Tolas that have at least 20 houses and a population over 100.

Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stated that the initiative will help integrate disconnected settlements into the state’s broader transport network. The project was proposed by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Patel and subsequently approved by the Cabinet.

Chief Minister Yadav has directed ministers to identify Majra-Tolas in their constituencies to facilitate execution. The Madhya Pradesh Rural Road Development Authority will manage the implementation, prioritising areas currently lacking access within a 50-metre radius.

Local MPs, MLAs, and district officials will be involved in the site selection process, ensuring that the most underserved regions are prioritised. The government expects the improved connectivity to boost access to healthcare, education, and employment, delivering substantial socio-economic benefits.

In addition to this scheme, the Cabinet also approved a full exemption on mandi fees for imported tur dal, aiming to stabilise prices and support agricultural trade. Furthermore, it sanctioned the construction of working women’s hostels in Jhabua, Singrauli, Dewas, and Narmadapuram, offering safe and affordable housing for women in the workforce.
