According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the construction of the 10.58 km Mumbai Coastal Road project is likely to be completed by November 2023.

After completion, it will add an 8.5 km long and 20 m wide sea promenade in Mumbai between Priyadarshini Park at Napean Sea Road and the Worli side of the Bandra Worli Sea Link.

Chandradhar Kandalkar, in charge of the project, said that more than 50% of the project work is completed, and construction work is on track.

According to the officials, Sea Promenade will include a butterfly garden and a biodiversity park to the city, and underground parking with 1,864 vehicles accommodating capacity.

From the reclaimed space of 111 hectares, 70 hectares or 63.6% will be used for developing recreation spaces and amenities. About 26.5 hectares or 23.88% will be used for constructing interchanges, and 14.5 hectares or 13.6% will be used to construct a sea wall to protect the area from sea waves.

Currently, Marine Drive is the longest sea promenade of 3.5 km. The sea promenade created as part of the Coastal Road project will be more than double this length and a width of 20 m. Indigenous trees are to be planted along the walkway to attract tourists. Other amenities include cycle tracks, open theatres, parks and playgrounds, and public toilets.

As part of the project, Monopile technology will be used instead of multiple foundations for constructing the bridge and the Coastal Road. According to the officials, this technology will be used for the first time in India. Around 176 single pillars are being constructed using monopile technology, where a single column runs from the bottom to the top of the pillar.
