NHAI Assures High Court of Three-Month Highway Repairs
The PIL was filed by Matru Foundation, which raised concerns about potholes, inadequate drainage, damaged bridges and culverts, and other infrastructure problems. The petition alleged lapses in the maintenance of national highways and drew the court’s attention to the risks posed by deteriorating road conditions and unresolved drainage issues.
Advocate Anita Sharma, appearing for NHAI, informed the bench that the authority would complete repairs to potholes, uneven road surfaces, clogged drains, damaged culverts and broken bridges within the stipulated period. NHAI will be responsible for addressing the infrastructure issues covered by the assurance during the three-month deadline.
The court took NHAI’s assurance on record and scheduled the next hearing after three months. The bench hearing the matter comprised Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice Anil Verma. Advocate Amey Bajaj appeared for Matru Foundation, while advocate Bhuvan Gautam represented the state government as government advocate.
The next hearing will provide an opportunity for the court to assess compliance with the undertaking. The extent of repairs completed on roads, bridges, culverts and drainage systems is expected to remain central to the proceedings. The case will therefore continue to focus on whether the identified deficiencies on national highways have been addressed within the committed timeline.
