NHAI Awards Contract for Flyovers and Underpasses at Jaipur Junction
The current 200 feet junction is a critical, high-traffic intersection in Jaipur that facilitates movement between Delhi, Ajmer and several urban localities including Mansarovar, Shyam Nagar and Vaishali Nagar. High traffic volume combined with densely populated residential areas around the junction results in significant congestion owing to the intermixing of National Highway and local traffic. This situation has constrained smooth through movement and placed pressure on junction capacity.
The project encompasses construction of two underpasses, one to serve traffic from Delhi towards Mansarovar and another to serve traffic from Mansarovar towards Delhi, together with two flyovers to enable through movements between Jaipur and Ajmer and between Ajmer and Delhi. These grade separated structures are intended to segregate local and through traffic, reduce conflict points and thereby substantially reduce waiting time at the junction. The design is expected to improve traffic flow and operational reliability.
At present, vehicles from multiple directions negotiate signalised crossings at the junction, contributing to delays, higher fuel consumption and reduced travel efficiency. The comprehensive infrastructure upgrade is expected to address these challenges by enhancing overall traffic efficiency, improving road safety and delivering measurable savings in travel time and fuel for commuters. The project is presented as a significant step towards strengthening urban mobility and easing congestion on the busy NH-48 corridor in Rajasthan.
