NHAI’s Amaravati Outer Ring Road Plan Estimated at Rs. 304.91 bn

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to begin work on a proposed 190-km, six-lane high-speed Outer Ring Road (ORR) around Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh. The project’s total construction length will be 195.13 km, including a 5.2-km spur near Guntur, and has been divided into four packages. The Centre has estimated civil construction costs at Rs. 105.96 bn, while the overall project cost, including land acquisition and other components, is estimated at Rs. 304.91 bn. The corridor is intended to link major highways and emerging urban areas.

Package 1 will cover 27 km near Kanchikacherla and include two tunnels measuring 2.7 km and 1.6 km. Package 2 will span 56 km. Package 3 will extend across 50.5 km and include the 5.2-km Narakoduru-Budampadu spur, along with a 4.8-km bridge over the Krishna River near Valluripalem.

Package 4 will cover 55.5 km and include a 400-metre tunnel at Veerullapadu. It will also contain a 3.15-km bridge across the Krishna River near Munnaluru. Together, the packages will provide three tunnels and two major Krishna River crossings along the planned corridor.

The ORR is designed to provide an alternative route for heavy vehicles travelling through the region and to improve links between highways and developing urban areas. Its alignment is also intended to separate long-distance traffic from local commuters using roads within Amaravati and nearby settlements. The project’s construction structure is expected to allow work to be managed across separate sections while covering key crossings and difficult terrain.

The planned road will add a high-capacity connection around the developing capital region of Andhra Pradesh. By linking multiple highway routes, the corridor is intended to support regional movement and reduce pressure on roads carrying through traffic. NHAI is preparing to commence work after the required project components and construction packages are taken forward.
