The Noida transport department is planning to develop nearly 100 designated auto-rickshaw stands across the district to reduce road congestion and enhance last-mile connectivity. The initiative is aimed at organising auto movement and curbing unauthorised parking near busy metro and bus hubs.

A meeting with traffic police and stakeholders is scheduled for 26 July to finalise key pick-up and drop-off points along major routes. “This meeting will identify designated stops to improve traffic flow and commuter convenience,” said Siyaram Verma, Assistant Regional Transport Officer.

Once the locations are confirmed, signage and supporting infrastructure will be installed at each site. The move follows discussions between the transport department, traffic police, and the Noida CNG Auto Drivers’ Union, which had long demanded systematic regulation of stands.

“These stands will help commuters find autos easily, and drivers won’t face fines for unauthorised parking,” said Omprakash Gurjar, union president. He noted that a list of high-demand areas—including Sector 37, Botanical Garden, Sector 51, Sector 52, Model Town, and Surajpur—has been submitted to authorities.

Currently, thousands of auto-rickshaws operate around major metro stations such as Botanical Garden, Golf Course, City Centre, and Sector 52, often contributing to traffic snarls in the absence of designated stands.

According to official data, Noida has 18,000 registered auto-rickshaws, most of which serve last-mile routes from transit points to residential and commercial zones.

Between January and June 2025, traffic police issued 1.1 million fines, including 25,000 challans to auto drivers. A total of 737 autos were also seized for various violations during this period.
