Odisha to build truck terminals alongside state and national highways

The Odisha government will build truck terminals alongside major highways in an effort to reduce traffic fatalities brought on by big vehicles being parked in an unsafe manner.

The state transportation department has shortlisted six sites for the public-private partnership (PPP) construction of truck terminals in the districts of Sundergarh, Balasore, Kendrapara, Angul, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur.

The primary goals of building integrated truck terminals is to decrease parking-related accidents and fatalities, make the best use of available resources, and avoid encroachments.

Nearly 25% of the 5,081 accident fatalities in 2021 were the result of vehicle collisions with trucks that were illegally parked on highways.
