Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 594 km six-lane Ganga Expressway at Meerut tomorrow, marking the opening of a greenfield corridor that is expandable to eight lanes. The project was built at Rs 362.3 billion (bn) and is intended to provide high-speed road connectivity across Uttar Pradesh. It is designed to link western, central and eastern areas of the state and to reduce travel times between major cities.

The corridor traverses 12 districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Meerut District Magistrate and Collector Vijay Kumar Singh said there was significant public enthusiasm and that the expressway would drastically improve connectivity to Prayagraj and the state capital, Lucknow, saving roughly two hours. He added that trial runs had shown excellent riding quality in his district and described the road as built to world standards.

The prime minister will also flag off the Amrit Bharat Express connecting Ayodhya to Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on the same day, a move described by officials as aimed at strengthening links between key religious destinations. Railway staff outlined features of the train, noting it has 22 coaches, fewer stoppages and engines at both ends to improve efficiency. They stated that cameras had been installed in all coaches for passenger safety and that the LHB coaches and green toilets would enhance onboard safety and comfort.

Senior railway personnel expressed gratitude to the prime minister and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and characterised the services as a significant boost for Ayodhya and long distance passengers. They said the developments reflected substantial progress in the railway sector and that local officials anticipated wider economic and mobility benefits as the expressway enters service. Public reaction in the region was reported as positive.
