In response to public complaints about poor road conditions near Metro Line 3 in Pune, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul. It plans to construct a new 50-kilometre cement-concrete road from Maan in Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, running parallel to the 25-kilometre elevated metro corridor. This dual-lane route aims to improve daily commutes and enhance the overall aesthetics of the area.
The project will include the development of bus bays, pedestrian pathways, parking lanes, medians, electrification, and the relocation of utilities. The upgraded road is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide better connectivity across the region.
According to PMRDA Executive Engineer Umesh Mallawat, the process to appoint consultants is underway following the release of the tender. The selected consultants will design the road layout, prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR), and oversee the construction.
Before the full road development begins, the current Metro Line 3 contractor will make interim repairs to ensure the route remains motorable. The full-scale project will proceed once the DPR and final designs are approved. A four-month timeline has been set for completing surveys, preparing the DPR, and finalising tender documents.
This road infrastructure plan comes at a crucial time as Pune’s traffic continues to rise, highlighting the growing need for integrated transport solutions.
