This ceremony also saw the dedication of the Khed-Muncher bypass, emphasising the region's dedication to quality infrastructure and road safety.
The highly anticipated flyover and interchange project at NDA Chowk, a gateway to West Pune, promises to alleviate traffic congestion significantly. Spanning 16.98 km, the flyover was completed at a cost of Rs 865 crore. A notable feature is the 2.2 km stretch of interchange works. The Mumbai-Bangalore highway is now equipped with dual lanes for internal and external services, supported by eight ramps enabling movement in eight directions, thus enhancing overall area connectivity.
Shri Gadkari emphasised the government's commitment to cost-effective quality infrastructure using advanced technology. He urged the holistic development of Pune as an eco-friendly, pollution-free city, critical to national progress.
Highlighting Pune's historical and cultural importance, Shri Gadkari stressed pollution reduction through transitioning to non-polluting transportation modes like electric and ethanol-powered vehicles.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored the importance of enhanced infrastructure in attracting investment. He revealed Central government permissions for an independent airport in Pune and plans for land acquisition.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar committed to accelerating the Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad metro project. He expressed optimism in using Central funds for flyovers and other enhancements to improve living conditions and tackle traffic congestion.
Post the bridge's inauguration, a road safety meeting was convened, attended by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Ministers, and relevant officials. Discussions centred on highway accident causes, ranging from vehicle technical errors to road construction oversights. Shri Gadkari emphasised collaboration between vehicle manufacturing and road construction experts to mitigate rising accidents on Maharashtra's highways.
Pune's NDA Square not only gains improved infrastructure but also a strong focus on road safety, reflecting a holistic approach to the region's growth and well-being.
