SAIL Supplies Largest Steel Quantity for Zojila Tunnel Project

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s largest steel producer and a Maharatna public sector undertaking, has become the single largest steel supplier to the prestigious Zojila Tunnel project. This under-construction tunnel is set to become India’s longest road tunnel and Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel.
SAIL has supplied over 31,000 tonnes of steel, including TMT rebars, structural steel, and plates, playing a crucial role in this strategic infrastructure initiative. Its continuous supply as the project advances towards its 2027 completion reflects the company’s strong commitment. This contribution further strengthens SAIL’s legacy of nation-building and demonstrates why major projects trust the reliability and strength of its steel.
Situated at an altitude of 11,578 feet in the challenging Himalayan terrain, the tunnel will stretch over 30 kilometres to provide vital all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh via Dras and Kargil. It forms a key component of the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway, significantly enhancing civilian and military mobility in the region.
Beyond its strategic importance, the Zojila Tunnel represents a substantial economic opportunity for the area. SAIL’s involvement adds to its record of supporting India’s landmark infrastructure projects, including the Chenab Railway Bridge, Atal Tunnel, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and the Dhola Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges.
