The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) expects six tunnels being constructed under various highway projects in Jammu and Kashmir to be completed next year, according to Project Director Rajiv Kumar. He provided the update during a media interaction at the NHAI regional office in Jammu.

Kumar said the strategically important Zojila tunnel was expected to become operational by December 2027. He also said work on the four-laning of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was nearing completion, providing an update on one of the region’s key road connectivity projects.

The briefing was held during a visit by a 10-member media delegation led by Shariq Noor, Deputy Director of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Bhopal. The delegation included senior representatives of media organisations based in Bhopal and visited the NHAI regional office as part of its programme in Jammu.

The visiting journalists also undertook a field visit to major highway infrastructure projects in the region. During the briefing on ongoing works, Kumar described National Highway-44 as a key connectivity corridor and said only around 15 km remained to be four-laned. The update covered the progress of tunnel construction and highway expansion works being undertaken across Jammu and Kashmir.
