Alongside road development, the government is expanding the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam Scheme to make Tamil Nadu hut-free by 2030. A total of Rs 7,000 crore has been approved to construct two lakh houses over the next two years. To date, 72,081 homes have been completed, with the remainder at various stages of construction.

For rural homes built before 2000–01, the state has allocated Rs 1,041.32 crore in FY25 to renovate 1.48 lakh structures across villages. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive rural development and improved living standards.
