Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna unveiled a highway four-laning project and set out related works across the state. He said the scheme will cost Rs 9.47 billion and that Detailed Project Report (DPR) work has been initiated for hundreds of other demands. He informed the Assembly that 182 MLAs had submitted formal requests for bypass infrastructure and that the government was addressing those demands systematically.

Mr Arjuna outlined a plan to upgrade a 43.16 km stretch of National Highway 75 between Pathalampalli and Latheri into a four-lane corridor. The proposal includes an 11.85 km bypass that traverses 13 villages, with land acquisition under way and designs for new bridges, culverts and major junction improvements. He said the package is subject to final administrative approval before construction contracts are awarded.

Legislators from across parties raised urgent demands during Question Hour for bypasses, high-level bridges and junction upgrades to tackle congestion and reduce accidents. The former chief minister sought dedicated bypasses to relieve bottlenecks on the Madurai–Theni corridor, while a communist member urged bypass infrastructure to manage heavy commercial traffic from nearby industrial hubs. A Cumbum representative flagged a high frequency of fatal accidents and pressed for immediate relief measures. An opposition member proposed a roundabout or an elevated flyover and another legislator sought a high-level bridge linking Agaracheri and Koodanagaram.

The minister said Detailed Project Report activity was under way on key industrial corridors and high-risk accident zones and that proposals such as the high-level bridge were at initial evaluation stages. He added that land acquisition and technical clearances would guide the timetable and that safety and traffic flow improvements were priorities. Implementation would follow statutory approvals and the completion of required surveys and clearances.
