The Telangana government has launched an ambitious programme to develop around 13,000 km of road network across the state. Of this, 7,947 km will be built through 17 packages under the Panchayat Raj Department, while the Roads and Buildings Department will develop another 5,190 km through an equal number of packages.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said tenders for the projects, already approved by the State Cabinet, would be called shortly to enable early commencement of work. Addressing a meeting on Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) road projects on Tuesday, he urged contractors to be partners in the state’s “Telangana Rising” initiative and assured that opportunities would also be extended to small contractors. A meeting with bankers is planned to facilitate financial support for them.

Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the previous BRS government for leaving unpaid arrears of Rs 450 billion for development works, adding that it had committed to projects worth Rs 1.75 trillion but failed to clear dues for works valued at Rs 450 billion. This, he said, has created a financial burden on the current administration. He emphasised that the government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is focused on welfare schemes alongside infrastructure, industry, education, and healthcare development.
