Works Secretary Sets Deadlines for Brahmapur Road, Flyover Projects
Singh instructed the agencies to deploy adequate manpower, modern machinery and advanced technology to clear pending work on the ring road. He set March 2027 as the target for completing the project and directed officials to maintain regular oversight of construction activities.
The secretary also stressed that the technical standards specified in the contract must be followed without compromise. Senior engineers were asked to conduct frequent progress reviews and ensure close supervision so that construction milestones are achieved within the approved schedule.
Singh inspected the Gate Bazar Flyover, which is being constructed by the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC). The project has an estimated cost of Rs. 1.3 bn and was reported to be 36 per cent complete. He directed departmental officers and the contractor to finish the remaining work by July 2027.
The inspection team included Superintending Engineer Damodar Kaibarta, who is the chief construction engineer for the Southern Circle Roads and Buildings division in Brahmapur, Superintending Engineer Somanath Tripathy of the Ganjam Roads and Buildings division, and Assistant Executive Engineer Chandray Marndi of the Roads and Buildings sub-division. Representatives of the contracting agency also attended the review. The department’s directions were aimed at improving execution speed while preserving construction quality and ensuring that the two connectivity projects meet their revised completion targets.
