The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 710 metre six-lane underpass on the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad corridor (FNG corridor) to divert through-traffic and ease pressure on internal roads in Noida and the Delhi-National Capital Region. The scheme aims to keep vehicles travelling to and from Meerut, Faridabad, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Agra and Greater Noida on the corridor rather than on local streets. Officials said the project will reduce bottlenecks and improve daily traffic flow.

Work Circle Six of the Noida Authority prepared the project plan while Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System finalised the detailed design. A presentation to the authority chief executive officer, Krishna Karunesh, for approval is expected shortly. The administrative timeline anticipates early commencement of construction.

An inspection at the Parthala roundabout identified a risk that congestion could become severe once the FNG expressway is fully operational. Presently traffic pressure remains manageable because the corridor is not yet complete, but projected volumes are expected to rise sharply and create major bottlenecks. The approved underpass is proposed as a long-term solution to carry through-traffic beneath key junctions and to separate local and intercity movement. Planners emphasised that grade separation would enhance safety and reduce travel time without imposing new restrictions on local access.

Upon completion the underpass will permit smoother travel from Soharkha and Phase two areas towards the Delhi-Meerut Expressway via Chhijarsi and will improve access between the Parthala bridge and Kisan Chowk. Commuters who currently face difficulties near Chhijarsi when accessing NH nine will gain a more direct route via the Bisrakh bridge towards Greater Noida West. The reconfiguration of junctions and approach roads is expected to streamline peak hour movements.

Authorities are also pursuing complementary measures including widening roads that connect NH nine to Noida and a proposal for a 640-metre-long flyover near Chhijarsi on the FNG corridor. If implemented, these upgrades are expected to cut congestion, improve travel time reliability and strengthen regional connectivity. The combined measures aim to deliver sustained improvements in traffic management for Noida residents and commuters.
