Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 Completed With Final 5 km Launch

The Ahmedabad Metro project reached a major milestone as Narendra Modi flagged off services on the remaining 5 km stretch between Sachivalay and Mahatma Mandir, marking the completion of Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2.

Phase 2 includes the northern extension of the existing Line 2 (Red Line) from Phase 1. This extension spans 22.8 km from Motera Station to Mahatma Mandir and features 20 stations. Prior to the latest launch, the 17.3 km section between Motera Stadium and Sachivalay was already operational. Phase 2 also includes the operational eastern spur of the Red Line.

Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1 comprises two corridors with a combined length of 39.26 km. Line 1 (East–West/Blue Line) runs from Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam over 21.16 km with 18 stations, while Line 2 (North–South/Red Line) connects Motera to APMC over 18.87 km with 15 stations.

Commenting on the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the opening of the remaining Phase 2 stretch from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening Ahmedabad’s infrastructure. He added that the expanded metro network would significantly enhance ease of living for residents of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

With the completion of Phase 2, the metro is expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time and congestion, and support sustainable urban mobility across the twin cities.
