AMC To Repair Six Railway Overbridges
A consultant’s report identified that the bearings on the six overbridges were severely worn out and posed a danger because of heavy traffic and frequent movement of large vehicles. The report recommended urgent replacement of the bearings to prevent structural distress and to maintain serviceability. Municipal engineers have prioritised the interventions on the basis of risk and traffic intensity. The prioritisation is intended to reduce the likelihood of emergency closures and sudden disruptions.
During the replacement works, the civic body plans to minimise traffic disruption by installing temporary Bailey structures that will maintain movement for light vehicles. The temporary arrangements will be supported by signage and traffic marshals to manage vehicular flow and safety. The permanent works will involve the installation of modern elastomeric bearings to enhance durability and reduce maintenance needs. Works will be scheduled to limit peak hour interventions and to coordinate with local traffic management plans.
The six railway overbridges identified for repair are Girdharnagar, Chamunda, Cadila, Nathalal Jhagda, Chandlodia and Chimanbhai Patel and these will be attended in a phased manner. AMC officials have indicated that the phasing will seek to balance construction requirements with commuter convenience. The programme is expected to improve load distribution and extend the service life of the structures. Officials expect the upgrades to yield long term benefits in operational reliability and reduced repair cycles.
