Bangalore Metro Short Loop Service Faces Criticism From Commuters

Commuters have raised concerns over the short loop metro services operating between Byapanahalli and Majestic stations during peak hours, claiming that the service is largely ineffective. They have urged the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) to extend such services to other stretches to better meet passenger demand.

BMRCL introduced the short loop services in February 2024 and reviewed them in June 2024. While officials noted a rise in passenger numbers, the service has not been re-examined since then.

“The short loop service helps manage the extra rush from Byapanahalli, but deboarding everyone at Majestic and then continuing on the same route is not practical. The next train is already full, so all passengers cannot be accommodated,” said Sumalatha L, a commuter. She added, “There are many occasions when I am running late and unable to board the train from Majestic on the purple line because it is full. Security staff do not allow entry. BMRCL should run short loop trains from Majestic to Challaghatta and extend similar services to the green line and upcoming routes.”

Another commuter, Shobhana R, stressed, “Peak-hour congestion is not limited to one route. A proper study of all lines in all directions is needed to understand passenger challenges. Revenue and ticket hikes are not the only priorities.”

Responding to the concerns, a BMRCL spokesperson said that short loop services currently operate only on the Byapanahalli–Majestic stretch of the purple line. Decisions to add more services depend on operational feasibility and financial considerations, and at present, there has been no increase in passenger volume to justify expansion.
