Bangalore Metro: Siemens – RVNL JV gets Rs. 7.6 Bn contract

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has awarded Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) and Siemens, their joint venture, a contract valued at about Rs. 7.6 billion, the company said in a BSE filing on June 10, 2024. This contract covers the 57 km of Bangalore Metro Blue Line's 750V DC third rail electrification work, which is included in package EPC5-CC. Phase-2A of the Blue Line runs from the Central Silk Board to Krishnarajapura, while Phase-2B connects the latter to the airport. The Central Silk Board and Kempegowda International Airport will eventually be connected by the 57 km blue line, which will pass through 30 stops.

The engineering, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of 33 KV distribution and 750 V DC third rail traction electrification are all included in the extensive scope of work covered by Package EPC5-CC. For Bangalore Metro's Phase-2A and Phase-2B, the project also includes installing traction substations, auxiliary substations, and a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

In September 2023, BMRCL issued a bid invitation for package EPC5-CC; the projected cost was not specified, and the deadline was set at 130 weeks, or 2.5 years. In February 2024, financial bids were available, and Siemens-RVNL JV placed the lowest bid. Siemens owns 70% of the shares in this joint venture, with RVNL holding the remaining 30%. The total contract value is almost Rs. 7.6 billion.
