Bengaluru Metro’s Phase-3 expansion may impact over 11,000 trees along its proposed corridors, with some to be cut and others relocated. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has yet to finalise the alignment and is holding three days of public consultations to hear citizens' suggestions and concerns.
Phase-3 includes two new elevated corridors: one from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.1 km), and another from Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km).
While many residents support the Metro for its long-term benefits in easing traffic and reducing pollution, others are urging BMRCL to reconsider the alignment to preserve more trees. Some have questioned the accuracy of the tree count and requested a fresh survey.
BMRCL officials are leading discussions and inviting public feedback before finalising the plans. The consultations aim to balance infrastructure needs with environmental preservation.
