The Bengaluru Metro project has advanced with the arrival of all six coaches of the eighth trainset for the Yellow Line at Hebbagodi Depot on January 19, 2026. The trainset has been manufactured by Titagarh Rail System, marking steady progress in rolling stock delivery for the corridor.

The Yellow Line spans 19.15 kilometres between R.V. Road and Bommasandra and covers 16 stations. According to a senior official from Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the newly delivered coaches will first be assembled into a complete trainset before undergoing a series of mandatory tests.

The train will be subjected to comprehensive static and dynamic trials, including signalling integration and running for a stipulated minimum number of kilometres. These tests will be conducted during night hours after passenger services conclude for the day.

Under an existing memorandum of understanding between China’s CRRC Corporation Limited and Titagarh Rail System, Titagarh will supply 14 trainsets for the Yellow Line and 20 trainsets for the Purple Line. In February 2019, CRRC Corporation had secured the rolling stock contract for the Bengaluru Metro, which involved supplying 216 coaches across 36 trainsets for the Yellow and Purple lines. However, due to its inability to fulfil the contract requirements, CRRC entered into a partnership with Titagarh Rail System.

As per the agreement, CRRC will deliver one prototype train each for the Yellow and Purple lines, while the remaining 34 trainsets will be manufactured by Titagarh Rail System in India. The collaboration reflects a shift towards domestic manufacturing in metro rolling stock and supports the ongoing expansion of Bengaluru’s urban transport infrastructure.

The arrival of the eighth trainset underscores steady momentum in the Yellow Line project, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity between central Bengaluru and the Bommasandra industrial corridor once operational.
