Bengaluru Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Arrives For Final Trials

The Bengaluru to Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper express arrived at Bengaluru for final checks after the Railway Minister announced in May that a new sleeper variant would commence service to improve connectivity. The service is intended to link Bengaluru with the Hubballi-Dharwad region, Belagavi, Pune and Mumbai and to enhance long distance travel options. Bengaluru railway station falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the South Western Railway (SWR) zone and the train is part of broader modernisation plans.\n\nSouth Western Railway (SWR) chief public relations officer Dr Manjunath Kanamadi confirmed that the trainset is at Bengaluru for final testing by BEML and has not yet been handed over to the railway. He said the set is being stabled at SMVT Bengaluru station for operational convenience while engineers complete checks and trials. The train is reported to be a 16 car composition used during the testing process.\n\nThe formation comprises 16 coaches with 11 three tier coaches, four two tier coaches and one AC coach, giving a total passenger capacity of 823 with 611 in three tier, 188 in two tier and 24 in one AC. The service will join existing intercity links once it clears statutory trials and receives approvals from the concerned authorities. Officials indicated that the launch timetable will depend on completion of tests and certification.\n\nFeatures cited by railways officials include semi high speed capability with a design speed of up to 180 kmph, ergonomically designed berths with improved cushioning and automatic external and internal doors with vestibules for smooth movement. The train will have enhanced suspension and noise reduction, safety systems such as Kavach and an emergency talk back system, disinfectant technology and an advanced driver cab for improved operations. The aerodynamic exterior and passenger oriented amenities aim to provide a cleaner and more comfortable travel experience on the long distance corridor.
