Bengaluru Rail Expansion Underway

The eagerly anticipated Metro line from RV Road to Bommasandra is awaited by Electronics City employees, but another significant development brings relief to commuters. The 48-km Doubling Project between Baiyappanahalli and Hosur includes the Heelalige station, located 3 km and 5 km from Electronics City-2 and Electronics City-1, respectively.

Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprises (K-RIDE) Director of Projects, RK Singh, stated that the 10.5 km stretch from Karmelaram to Heelalige stations has already been commissioned. By the end of this fiscal year, they plan to commission the crucial 3.5 km stretch from Bellandur Road to Karmelaram and a 7 km stretch between Anekal and Maranayakanahalli.

The quadrupling project between Cantonment and Whitefield, coupled with this doubling project, is expected to significantly impact commuting. Chandapura junction is close to Electronics City-2 and 5 km from Electronics City-1, benefiting those travelling to Sarjapur, Anekal, Karmelaram, and other areas. The entire Baiyappanahalli-Hosur doubling project is set to be completed by December 2024.

Public transport activist Srinivas Alavilli emphasised the importance of BMTC's involvement in providing feeder buses to complement the expanded train services, as this would further enhance the public's commuting experience.
