BLW Ships Sixth 3,300 HP Diesel Loco To Mozambique

Banaras Locomotive Works has dispatched the sixth indigenously developed 3,300 HP AC–AC diesel-electric locomotive to Mozambique on December 15, 2025, reinforcing India’s expanding footprint in global locomotive exports.

BLW has secured an export order for 10 such locomotives, with supplies being executed through RITES under a contract for manufacturing and export. The first two units were shipped in June 2025, followed by the third in September, the fourth in October, the fifth on December 12 and the sixth on December 15.

According to the official release, the 3,300 HP Cape Gauge (1,067 mm) locomotives are capable of operating at speeds of up to 100 kmph and are designed to meet international standards. Driver-friendly features include a modern cab layout, refrigerator, hot plate and mobile holder, aimed at improving comfort and operational efficiency.

Based in Varanasi, BLW is a public sector undertaking of Indian Railways and is emerging as a key export hub for locomotives. Leveraging indigenous design and advanced manufacturing capabilities, the unit has supplied locomotives to Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Mozambique since 2014, supporting railway infrastructure development in partner countries.
