Central Railway has deployed the Standard KAVACH automatic train protection system on the Godhani to Teegaon section of its Nagpur division, marking a step in modernising safety on suburban and freight corridors. The rollout follows installation of trackside and onboard equipment and a programme of trials and integration with signalling systems. Railway officials said the move aims to reduce the risk of collisions and enhance operational reliability across the section.

KAVACH is an indigenous train protection system developed to automatically apply brakes in case of signal passing at danger, overspeed or potential collision and it is designed to function with existing signalling infrastructure. The Standard KAVACH variant deployed here provides continuous train detection, train integrity verification and automatic intervention features to prevent human error-related incidents. Central Railway undertook calibration and compatibility checks to align the system with local operational patterns and rolling stock characteristics.

The deployment covers the Godhani to Teegaon stretch and includes equipping locomotives and vital track sections with communication and control modules, along with staff training and operational protocols. Testing phases incorporated simulated scenarios to validate system responsiveness and fail-safe operations and the integration team reported successful interoperability with traffic control systems. The initiative forms part of a broader national effort to enhance rail safety through indigenous technology adoption.

Operational benefits are expected in reducing signal passed at danger events, enhancing punctuality and improving overall network resilience while maintenance regimes will evolve to include KAVACH-specific diagnostics. Central Railway plans to monitor system performance and refine procedures based on field data and incident analyses to ensure sustained safety gains. The deployment is seen as a step towards wider rollout across additional sections in the coming period.
