The Union Cabinet has recently approved the Phase 2 expansion of the Pune Metro Rail Project, which includes the development of Line 4 and Spur Line 4A. The decision, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a key step in strengthening metro connectivity across Pune.

Line 4 will run 25.52 km from Kharadi to Khadakwasla via Hadapsar and Swargate, featuring 22 elevated stations. Spur Line 4A covers a further 6.12 km between Nal Stop and Warje–Manik Baug, adding six elevated stations. Together, the two corridors will extend 31.64 km with a total of 28 stations.

The project, estimated at Rs 9,857.85 crore, will be funded jointly by the Central and Maharashtra governments along with bilateral and multilateral agencies. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) will be responsible for implementing all civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems works.

Once completed, the expansion is expected to link Pune’s eastern, central, and western zones, enhancing access to major residential and commercial hubs while offering commuters more reliable and efficient travel options.
