The Central Government will bear the entire cost of constructing 92 railway overbridges (ROBs) across Odisha, following a request from the state government, the Ministry of Railways has confirmed.

Previously, the cost of railway overbridges was shared equally (50:50) between the Centre and the State Government. The newly approved bridges include 35 in Khurda district, 21 in Ganjam, 13 in Jajpur, 10 in Cuttack, three in Bhadrak, two each in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, and Angul, and one in Bargarh.

In a statement, the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Ministry of Railways, through an official communication, had agreed to fund 100 per cent of the construction cost for the 92 proposed bridges across the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their continued support in strengthening railway infrastructure in Odisha.

Majhi stated that the conversion of 92 overbridge projects to fully railway-funded works, to be executed by the Railways as a single entity, reflects the Centre’s strong commitment to enhancing safety, connectivity, and infrastructure in the state.

“The decision will greatly benefit the people of Odisha by ensuring faster execution, safer travel, and improved road–rail integration,” Majhi said. “The Prime Minister has always given special attention to the development of Odisha, and his dedication to the people of the state will further accelerate progress.”

The fully funded initiative is expected to significantly reduce project delays, improve transportation safety, and enhance regional mobility, aligning with the government’s broader focus on railway modernisation and connectivity-led development.
