The demand to modernise Kavali Railway Station and secure halts for several important express trains has been renewed with the Centre. Kavali is an NSG-4 category station under South Central Railway and generated over Rs 134.1 million in revenue during 2024-25 and handled one point zero eight three million passengers in the same period. Nearly two million commuters use the station annually, underscoring its regional significance.

Despite these figures, the station has not been included under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The demand coincides with plans to develop Kavali as part of a larger industrial corridor on Andhra Pradesh's southern coast, anchored by the Ramayapatnam Port project which is being developed as a modern deep-water port in Nellore district. Bharat Petroleum Corporation is reported to be preparing an integrated refinery complex at Ramayapatnam with an estimated investment exceeding Rs one trillion (Rs 1 tn).

District records show ongoing land acquisition proceedings for an industrial hub linked to Ramayapatnam Port in the villages of Ravuru and Chevuru in Gudluru mandal. Rajya Sabha member Beeda Mastan Rao Yadav has emphasised that the station has emerged as one of the busiest in the region in terms of passenger traffic and revenue and that upgrading under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is essential to meet local travel needs. He has submitted representations to the Union Railway Minister in New Delhi seeking inclusion of Kavali station and approval for stoppages of long-distance express trains.

The representations request halts at Kavali for the Sabari Express, the Howrah-SMVT Bengaluru Express, the Howrah-Chennai Mail and the Chennai-New Delhi Grand Trunk Express. The submission states that additional stoppages would benefit students, employees, pilgrims and other passengers from the region and support the mobility demands generated by port and industrial development. Authorities are being urged to consider the strategic importance of the station in Nellore district when allocating upgrades and train schedules.
