Chamarajanagar Station Revamp Nears Completion

Redevelopment work at Chamarajanagar railway station under the Amrit Bharat scheme is expected to be completed by February, with officials from South Western Railway directing the executing agency to finish all pending works within the stipulated timeline.

The project, undertaken at a total cost of Rs 240 million, has entered its final stages. A team led by the Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager recently inspected the site and instructed officials and contractors to complete the remaining work by the end of February. Around 90 per cent of the project, largely covering civil and electrical works, has already been completed, with the focus now on finishing beautification activities to meet the deadline.

The redevelopment is aimed at improving connectivity to the border district, easing congestion at Mysuru railway station, promoting tourism and supporting industrial growth. Originally built with a single platform during broad-gauge conversion, the station has now been extended on both sides, with two tracks capable of accommodating 24-coach trains on each platform.

Major works completed so far include electrification, the construction of separate waiting rooms for men and women with toilet facilities, a reservation room with an extended concourse, a cafeteria and a catering stall. Coach guidance display boards, signage and facade enhancements have also been installed, giving the station a modernised appearance.

In addition, approach roads to the station have been widened, parking facilities for two-wheelers and four-wheelers developed, and remaining civil and fabrication works completed. The redevelopment was executed in two phases, each costing Rs 120 million.

Once the project is fully completed, senior railway officials will conduct a final inspection and recommend a safety trial run before opening the upgraded station to the public. Stakeholders said the redevelopment, along with the two-track expansion, will enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade and commerce, boost tourism, support industries and improve the movement of agricultural produce.

The upgrade is expected to transform Chamarajanagar railway station into a modern transport hub, significantly enhancing passenger experience and regional connectivity.
