Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has completed the tunnelling between Light House and Thirumayilai as part of the phase II project. The completion of this geological excavation marks a key civil engineering milestone for the expansion and signifies the end of the major underground construction activity on this segment. The work concluded after coordinated site operations, temporary support installations and planned desupporting. Project managers indicated that the structural integrity of the bore was confirmed through routine inspections and monitoring.

The tunnelling advance will permit the next stage of work to proceed, including track laying, electrical and signalling installations, and station finishing activities. Teams will prioritise installation of permanent linings, drainage arrangements and utility relocations to prepare the corridor for systems integration.
