Chennai Metro Phase II: Poonamallee–Porur Stretch Set to Open by December

Chennai Metro Rail is gearing up to launch the Poonamallee–Porur stretch of Phase II by December 2025, featuring six-coach trains, as part of its rapid network expansion.

According to reports, the Porur–Kodambakkam and Koyambedu–Nandanam stretches are expected to commence operations by June 2026, while the Madhavaram–Sholinganallur corridor is planned for launch by March 2027. Phase II covers 116 km across three corridors—Madhavaram–SIPCOT, Poonamallee–Lighthouse, and Madhavaram–Manapakkam—with an estimated cost of Rs 632.46 billion. Construction is progressing swiftly, with the full network slated for completion by 2028.

A total of 138 trains, including 32 driverless trains, will operate under Phase II. Metro depots are being constructed at Madhavaram and Poonamallee to support operations and maintenance.
