Chennai Metro Rail's ambitious Corridors 4 (Light House to Poonamallee) and 5 (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur) have picked up momentum despite initial setbacks, signalling significant progress in expanding the city's metro network. These corridors, crucial for enhancing urban connectivity and easing commuter traffic, are now on a fast track towards completion.

Originally slated to commence operations earlier, the corridors faced delays due to land acquisition challenges and bureaucratic procedures. However, recent developments indicate accelerated construction activities and streamlined project execution strategies, aimed at overcoming these hurdles.

Corridor 4, spanning 26 kilometres, aims to connect Light House in the south to Poonamallee in the west, catering to densely populated areas and facilitating seamless travel across the city. Corridor 5, covering 45 kilometres, will stretch from Madhavaram in the north to Sholinganallur in the south, linking major residential and commercial hubs.

Officials overseeing the project highlighted advancements in tunnelling, station construction, and laying of tracks along both corridors. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has intensified efforts to meet revised timelines and ensure operational readiness, focusing on quality standards and passenger safety.
