CMRS Inspection Underway For Chennai Metro Phase Two Corridor Four

Inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, the regulatory authority responsible for safety certification, has commenced on Corridor Four of Chennai Metro Phase Two, operated by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) team will assess infrastructure, signalling and compliance with statutory norms ahead of commercial operations. The review aims to validate safety systems and certify the corridor for trial runs and subsequent operational integration with the existing network.

The inspection will cover track works, stations, signalling, traction and power supply, communication networks and train control systems. Teams will examine maintenance regimes, emergency response procedures and staff training records to ensure readiness. Detailed checks will include alignment of safety features with statutory requirements and interoperability tests with the older Phase One sections. Independent auditors and technical experts will support verification of design parameters and life safety measures.

The inspection is part of a mandated process that precedes provisional commercial service and is expected to inform any rectifications required before passenger operations. Trial runs under observation will allow verification of timetable adherence, platform alignment and signalling performance under load. Authorities anticipate that completion of the certification process will permit phased opening of the corridor to commuters. Operational staff will be assessed for competency in signalling protocols and emergency response coordination.

Local officials reported coordination with civic agencies to manage access, last mile connectivity and passenger information systems during the transition to operations.
