On the second day of inspection, the Commissioner of Metro Railways Safety (CMRS) reviewed progress on the metro stretch between Iyyappanthangal and Vadapalani in Chennai. The inspection forms part of a final verification ahead of commercial operations for the Phase two extension. Officials indicated that the assessment aims to confirm readiness of stations and systems prior to certification. Site walk-throughs and scrutiny of maintenance documentation formed part of the checks.

Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, the CMRS circle, accompanied by three deputy commissioners, commenced a three-day inspection on Wednesday covering the entire eight point five kilometres of the stretch. The check covered elevated and underground sections along the route and involved teams from the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and contractors. Inspectors focused on integration of signalling, power supply and station facilities. Coordination between CMRL teams and contractors was observed to resolve minor defects.

The first day of inspection included detailed assessment of electrical, track and civil assets to identify any outstanding works. A final speed trial inspection is expected at the end of the third week of February as part of the certification process. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited is likely to begin commercial operations by the end of February subject to approval from the Railway Board. Officials will compile a compliance dossier for submission to the regulator.

Operational plans indicate that trains originating from Poonamallee Bypass station will halt at 10 Metro stations up to Porur and will thereafter halt only at Vadapalani, bypassing six intermediate stations. Authorities are undertaking remedial works where required and compiling compliance reports for the safety regulator. A timeline for addressing deficiencies has been established to support timely certification. The inspections are intended to ensure passenger safety and system reliability before revenue services commence.
