CONCOR places Rs 4.62 billion orders to boost rail logistics
According to company details, CONCOR has signed three key agreements with leading industry players — Touax Texmaco Railcar Leasing Pvt Ltd, GATX India Pvt Ltd, and TIL Ltd — covering the supply of wagons, brake vans, and reach stackers.
The largest contract, valued at Rs 2.37 billion, has been awarded to GATX India for the supply of 12 rakes of BLSS wagons with Brake Van Type BVCM, provided on a 10-year operating lease. The BLSS (Bogie Low-sided Steel) wagons are designed for efficient container transport, offering higher payload flexibility and improved safety.
Another order worth Rs 1.58 billion has been placed with Touax Texmaco Railcar Leasing Pvt Ltd for 8 rakes of BLSS wagons with Brake Van Type BVCM, also under a 10-year lease arrangement. This leasing model enables CONCOR to expand its fleet without large upfront investment, improving financial flexibility while meeting the rising demand for containerised freight.
In addition, CONCOR has awarded a Rs 667.5 million contract to TIL Ltd for the design, manufacture, and commissioning of 25 loaded reach stackers (RSTs). These heavy-duty machines will support container handling operations at terminals, reducing turnaround time and improving yard efficiency.
The new wagons and handling equipment are expected to significantly expand CONCOR’s operational fleet, strengthen intermodal connectivity, and enhance service reliability across its network of inland container depots and terminals.
Industry experts see these investments as part of CONCOR’s modernisation and capacity-building efforts, aligning with India’s National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti initiative. Both frameworks aim to improve logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and promote sustainable freight movement.
With these strategic upgrades, CONCOR aims to consolidate its leadership in containerised rail transport and support India’s growing export-import trade through faster, more reliable logistics solutions.
