The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation recorded a record 2,358 million (mn) passenger journeys in 2025 after the opening of two new sections on the Pink and Magenta Lines. The expansion reinforced the network's role in the rapidly growing urban rail system and contributed to a rise from 2,283.5 mn journeys in 2024. The 2025 figure translated into an average of six point four six mn passenger journeys each day, up from six point two three nine mn daily in the prior year. The increase reflects both network growth and rising commuter demand.

India now possesses the world's third-largest metro network, with over 1,143 kilometres of operational lines across 26 cities, collectively handling roughly 11.5 mn passenger journeys daily. The Delhi-NCR network comprises about 416 kilometres and 303 stations, including 29 kilometres across 21 stations on the Noida-Greater Noida Metro and around 13 kilometres with 12 stations on the Rapid Metro Gurugram, which extend the system into key National Capital Region cities.

Delhi Metro operates 343 trains with 2,368 coaches and runs approximately 4,508 trips every day, covering about 140,112 train kilometres each day. The system maintained punctuality of about 99.9 per cent, placing it among the most reliable metro networks globally. The highest single-day ridership in 2024 occurred on 18 November with 7,867,649 travellers, and a new peak was recorded on eight August 2025 when 8,187,674 passengers used the network in a single day.

Officials indicated that continued expansions, service frequency and operational reliability underpin the sustained growth in patronage and reinforce the metro's central role in urban mobility. The Delhi Metro's performance in 2025 underlined the importance of integrated regional links and capacity enhancement as cities seek to meet increasing commuter demand.
