DMRC daily ridership hits 601.7 million passengers in May

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is ensuring comfortable journeys for commuters at a pleasant 24 degrees Celsius amidst the sweltering heat, with a record ridership of 601.7 million passengers in May.

Running over 4,200 train trips covering 14 million kilometers daily, DMRC is providing much-needed relief to passengers with its enjoyable commuting experience, the agency stated. May witnessed a record high daily passenger count this year, marking an increase from 524.1 million in the same month last year.

To support its workforce during the heatwave, DMRC has implemented afternoon breaks and provided essential amenities such as drinking water and medical facilities across all sites. With a fleet of over 345 trains boasting around 5,000 AC units, DMRC ensures optimal performance by conducting comprehensive checks on these units annually before the onset of summer.

Additionally, underground stations are equipped with state-of-the-art systems for remote monitoring and control of AC units, maintaining station temperatures between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius even when outside temperatures soar between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius.

Regular inspections and increased maintenance checks are conducted on heat-sensitive infrastructure components like escalators and lifts to prevent malfunctions.

To mitigate the risk of fire incidents, DMRC maintains a robust mechanism of fire extinguishers, hoses, and sprinkler systems at strategic locations within and around metro premises, ensuring quick activation in case of emergencies.
