DRDO Successfully Launches Rail-Based Agni-Prime Missile

DRDO, in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), successfully launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher on 24 September 2025, under full operational conditions. This next-generation missile has a range of up to 2,000 km and incorporates advanced features for modern strategic deployment.
The launch was conducted from a specially designed rail-based mobile launcher capable of operating across the rail network without preconditions. The system allows cross-country mobility, rapid launch with reduced visibility, and is fully self-sustained with state-of-the-art communication and protection mechanisms.
The missile’s trajectory was closely tracked by ground stations, and the launch met all mission objectives. This milestone paves the way for the induction of futuristic rail-based missile systems. The event was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and officers from the Strategic Forces Command.
The road-mobile version of Agni-P has already been inducted into service following a series of successful flight trials.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, SFC, and the Armed Forces, noting that this test places India among the select nations capable of deploying canisterised missiles via rail networks. The Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO also lauded all participating teams for their achievement.
