Efkon Emerges Lowest Bidder for Mumbai Metro Telecom Contract

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced Efkon India Private Limited as the lowest bidder for the telecommunication system contract of Mumbai Metro Line 9 and Line 7A. The development marks a key milestone in strengthening the digital and operational infrastructure of Mumbai’s expanding metro network.

DMRC invited bids for the contract with a completion timeline of 900 days. Technical bids were opened on 18 December 2025, with three firms submitting proposals. On 19 January 2026, technical evaluations were completed, following which one bid was rejected. Financial bids were opened the same day, and after evaluation, Efkon India was declared the lowest bidder.

Efkon India submitted a bid of Rs 1.034 billion, while Alstom Transport India Limited quoted Rs 1.506 billion. The competitive pricing highlights strong interest in the project and the growing scale of telecom infrastructure requirements in urban rail systems.

The scope of work includes the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the telecommunication system, excluding the TETRA system, for Mumbai Metro Line 9 and Line 7A, including the Dongri Depot. Line 9 runs from Dahisar East to Mira Bhayandar, while Line 7A connects Andheri East to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, both serving as extensions of Line 7.

The project is expected to enhance communication systems across the metro corridors, improving operational efficiency, safety and passenger experience. The selection of Efkon India reflects DMRC’s focus on deploying advanced and reliable telecom solutions in Mumbai’s metro infrastructure.

With the award of this contract, Mumbai Metro’s digital backbone is set to be strengthened, supporting the city’s broader push towards modern, technology-driven urban mobility.
