Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced ETA Engineering Pvt Ltd as the lowest bidder for the electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and VAC works contract for Corridor 3 (Purple Line) under Chennai Metro Phase II, which stretches 45.8 kilometres from Madhavaram to SIPCOT 2.

CMRL had invited bids for the project with a completion deadline of 2,170 days. Technical bids were opened on 30 April 2025, followed by an evaluation on 9 October, and the financial bids were opened on 10 October for the technically qualified firms. Upon completion of financial evaluation, ETA Engineering emerged as the lowest bidder.

The contract covers supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and training of electrical, plumbing, fire protection and VAC systems for nine underground and ten elevated stations from R.K. Salai station to Sholinganallur, including bored and cut-and-cover tunnels, U-sections, viaducts, and elevated ramps.

ETA Engineering submitted a bid value of Rs 2.55 billion, emerging ahead of competitors such as Blue Star Limited (Rs 2.99 billion), Jakson Limited (Rs 2.94 billion), and Universal MEP Projects and Engineering Services (Rs 2.85 billion).

Phase II of the Chennai Metro covers a total network of 118.9 kilometres, comprising three new corridors designed to improve connectivity between key residential, commercial, and industrial areas of the city. Corridor 3 (Madhavaram–SIPCOT 2) spans 45.8 kilometres, Corridor 4 (Light House–Poonamallee Bus Depot) runs 26.1 kilometres, and Corridor 5 (Madhavaram–Sholinganallur) covers 47 kilometres.

With this expansion, Chennai Metro aims to enhance seamless urban mobility and promote sustainable public transport, significantly reducing road congestion and travel time across the metropolitan region.
