Fine on Bullet train contractor for pipe damage

The city's civic body has imposed a fine of ?50,000 on the contractor responsible for executing the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited's (NHSRCL) Bullet train project. This fine comes in response to the contractor's damage to a crucial 1,600mm water pipeline situated at Keshavnagar, near the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

The decision to penalize the contractor was approved during a meeting of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's water and sewerage committee on Monday. It was determined that the contractor's actions resulted in severe damage to the primary trunk pipeline, leading to a supply disruption in parts of the West Zone for an entire day. Furthermore, the incident incurred significant losses, with hundreds of thousands of liters of potable water being wasted.

This penalty underscores the significance of upholding infrastructure integrity and the responsibility borne by contractors in executing large-scale projects. The civic body's decisive action aims to ensure accountability and deter similar incidents in the future, as the Bullet train project continues to make progress.
